AVI is proud to announce the arrival of our latest release — Brake Technology.
In this class you will learn the latest advancements in brake technology, including electronic braking, hybrid and electric vehicle brake service information. A main reason for these changes is an environmental concern. As the brake’s friction material wears, it has to go somewhere, and that somewhere can eventually be entering our drinking water supply. Older techs will remember when asbestos was a popular friction material. By the year 2025 all new vehicles must come equipped with copper-free brake pads and shoes. Copper had been viewed as an excellent choice due to its squeal resistant properties.
This course will cover all the friction material options available, helping you choose the right one for each application. Tom talks in-depth about the ways automotive engineers are dealing with squealing. He takes us through the most common modern brake problems, like pedal pulsation. He clearly explains just what torque is, proper torquing techniques and how it can affect braking. Various brake bleeding techniques are covered.
To do a proper brake service on a modern vehicle requires using a scan tool. Today’s brake systems are much more complex than yesterday. A case study on a Ford Escape covers the functions of the brake pedal stroke simulator sensor. The instructor discusses a situation with a Ford Fusion with braking power being boosted, using an electric vacuum pump.
Safe and reliable brakes have always been critical to a good driving experience. To be a brake service expert requires expert training. At AVI, your training starts here.
