Description
In automotive electrical systems, a series circuit directs current through each component one after another, so the same current flows through all parts. Total resistance is the sum of each component, and voltage drops add together. The main drawback is that if one component fails, the entire circuit stops conducting. Series circuits are also useful for increasing voltage—connecting batteries in series adds their voltages together, like creating a 24-volt system from two 12-volt batteries, commonly used in trucks and golf carts. While effective, this setup relies on every component performing correctly, since a weak cell can compromise the entire system.
