Description
A point-type distributor contains points that open and close to control current to the ignition coil. A rubbing block, integrated into the points, contacts a cam on the distributor shaft to operate them. A condenser prevents arcing and sharply stops current flow. The rotor sits atop the distributor shaft, keyed for one position. The distributor cap covers everything, connecting to spark plug wires. High voltage from the ignition coil travels via a coil wire to the cap’s center, through the rotor, and as the shaft rotates, to the correct spark plug for firing.
For these older vehicles, customers often request points, condenser, cap, rotor, spark plugs, and plug wires for a tune-up. Replacing these components simultaneously ensures good running condition.
