Alternative Fuel Vehicle Technician classes include a balance of classroom and show hands-on activities to best educate technicians on adding to their current skillset in a controlled and safe environment. These classes can be held at a client’s location, at an automotive technical college, or at our training centers. All our classes are customizable based on the needs of the client.

LAFV-001 Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Technician Training

This course trains the experience vehicle technician on how to safely and effectively diagnose and repair electric and hybrid vehicles. These new technologies are the fastest growing segment of the automotive industry and the skills learned in this class will prepare today and tomorrow’s technicians on these important skills.

Subjects covered include:

  • Information on the different types of electric vehicles, including HEVs (Hybrid Electric Vehicles), BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles), PhEVs (Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicles) and FCEVs (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles).
  • Understand the differences between conventional 12v automotive electric systems and the high voltage counterparts that exists when dealing with EVs.
  • How to safely disable an EV in preparation for diagnostics and repair.
  • Describe the major components that make up an EV.
  • Information on the different types of high voltage batteries.
  • Discuss the different types of EV charging appliances.

 

LAFV-002 Propane Autogas Vehicle Technician Training

This class prepares the experienced automotive technician on how to apply their skillset to diagnosing and repairing propane Autogas vehicles. This class covers the current propane autogas systems, including liquid injection and vapor injection.

Subjects covered include:

  • Understand the properties of propane as a vehicle fuel, how it is stored, and its flammability properties.
  • Explain the needs of a properly equipped propane vehicle repair facility.
  • Be able to describe the type of propane autogas vehicles on our roads today.
  • How to diagnose and repair propane autogas vehicles.

 

LAFV-003 Compressed Natural Gas Vehicle Technician Training

This course teaches the experienced conventional vehicle technician on how to safely and effectively identify, diagnose and repair Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered vehicles.

Subjects covered include:

  • Information on the different types of CNG vehicles in use today.
  • Understand the differences between conventional gasoline and diesel fuel delivery systems and CNG systems.
  • Describe the difference between dedicated, bi-fuel and dual fuel CNG vehicles.
  • Explanation of the types of CNG fueling (fast-fill and time fill).
  • Describe diagnostic techniques, including scan tool data, to assist in CNG vehicle repair.

 

LAFV-004 CNG Fuel System Inspector Technician Training

This course teaches the experienced CNG vehicle technician the proper procedures to follow when performing periodic inspection of CNG vehicle fuel systems per NFPA 52 code. The class also prepares the technician for CNG Fuel System Inspection certification.

Subjects covered include:

  • How to visually inspect CNG fuel systems and how to identify the different levels of possible damage to the fuel system components.
  • Understand the different types of fuel systems on the market today.
  • Explanation of the major types of CNG fuel tanks.
  • Understand the required reporting procedures for the inspection process.
  • Participate in class discussion on test taking and work on practice exams.
